Do a Search in Explorer for your backup file. First check for backups in the folder where your WP files are stored, such as "My Documents / Daily Work." My temporary backup files seem to be named "wp{wp}.bk1" You can also search for temp files and possibly recover part of the file.
For the future, in Word Perfect, make sure your Backup is set to 1 minute (in WP8 it is Tools, Settings, Files, Document)
As added protection, embed the Save command in all of your macros, so that each time you run a macro you will automatically save the file.
Another protection is to embed the Save command in common Instant Text abbreviations. For example, "tp" expands to "the patient" and I also have the Save command embedded in this phrase expansion. It is worth a few minutes to embed the Save command in several of your common phrases to guarentee that you intermittently save the file, without having to remember to do it manually.
