problem moving templates to new computer

I've done everything I can to try to move my files to a new computer and I've had nothing but problems. First thing, my new computer has Vista. I'm using Word 2002 which is part of Works 2005. It's the only copy of Word I have that I can use right now. There's Office 2007 installed on the new computer but it will not let me uninstall it. I've tried everything and it will not uninstall. So I think that's my main problem right now because I have Word 2002 installed and I've tried adding an auto text entry to save the normal.dot so I can find the file location but it's not coming up. Nothing for today's date is showing up even though I was asked to save the global template. Can anyone PLEASE, PLEASE help me. I need to be able to use my new computer (laptop) when I travel so I can keep up with my work.
I even downloaded the shortcut organizer but I tried copying that to where I think the normal.dot file is but none of my macros are there. I feel like I'm missing something very simple but right now I'm just going in circles.
