Extra words from Shorts.glo -- Just edit Shorts.glo

Version V has made the transition from other programs such as PRD easier but will require some simple changes for current users who expand with the space bar. Let me explain it: If you are using the space bar – or any phrase expander key – version V automatically includes Shorts.glo which contains entries such as the following:

   if if
   in in
   is is
   it it
   sob sob

The purpose of this inclusion is to prevent unintended expansions of "if" in "intravenous fluids" and similar bloopers. On the other hand, if you are typing "sob" the advisory will now look as follows:

   sob sob
   sob shortness of breath

There are two possible easy answers to your question.

  1. If you are rarely using "sob" as a word, just open Shorts.glo in WordPad or any text editor and remove the "sob sob" line. In the rare case where you want to type the word "sob" you will type esc or Shift+Space after the three letters to avoid expansion.

  2. For the entries that you are using more frequently (like "if" and "it"), leave them in Shorts.glo and use either the Shift key or a line number if you want to select the second entry when it appears in the advisory.

Shorts.glo is intentionally rather complete, as it is easier to delete than to add. Just edit it to reflect what you are using and it will apply to all of your glossaries.

PS. As I said earlier, we decided to go that way to make it easier for people who are just transitioning from other expanders. In the past, avoiding expansion of "if" "it" "is" was a stumbling block for beginners. So, we've shifted some of the difficulty to experienced users, but they are in a better position to handle it and this editing of Shorts is a one time operation.
