Instant Text Revision 306 Now Available

I am pleased to announce the availability of Revision 306 of Instant Text III.

This revision comes in two forms:

• Rev306S.exe applies to the Standard version.
• Rev306P.exe applies to the Pro version.

Select the proper file and download it. After downloading it, just run Rev306S.exe or Rev306P.exe, whichever is applicable, and it will automatically find the files to be revised and update them. (If you apply the wrong one, it will protest and nothing will be broken.)

To be sure that the revision has been applied, you can check the build date in Help/About Instant Text and it should now be 1999-11-08.

Revision 306 makes several small improvements and corrections. The first items apply to both versions:

• Hard Space Improvement

  Advisories are now cleared whenever you type an Alt or Ctrl key unless it has a special meaning for Instant Text, such as Alt/ or Alt=. This means that characters such as hard spaces that are generated with key combinations using Alt and Ctrl can be treated properly. (Hard spaces are generated by Ctrl+Space in WP8 and by Ctrl+Shift+Space in Word.)

• Better backspacing optimization

  We have improved the optimization of backspacing for accented letters and for automatic capitalization when the first letter is already capitalized or is a digit.

• Correction of the treatment for capitalization of accented letters.

• Correction of a very rare compilation error that could appear if phrases longer than 40 words were selected.

• When Instant Text is used as a "blind" expander with advisories hidden, using Alt= to add an entry restores the lower layout. This is necessary to allow the use of Ctrl+V for pasting in the editor window.

• Correction of the document title in line counts for WordPerfect 9.

• After using the line count dialogs for Log and Print, focus is restored on the count dialog to allow shortcuts such as Alt+C for closing.

• Correction of a error introduced in 304 that caused "#typist" not to be replaced in the count report.

• Correction of an error in the API for applications using the insert by message.

With these corrections we are back to the happy state of Zero Known Problems.

Many of the points covered in this revision are rather small and some of you may wonder whether to apply it or not. It is definitely worth applying if:

• You like to stay current
• You have not yet applied prior revisions
• You are using WordPerfect 9 and the line count
• You are using a lot of accented entries

  • Improvements for users of the space bar
  • Starting Instant Text in lower screen position
  • Easy reopening of the current glossary
  • Easier use of the glossary speed-menu

As previous revisions, 306 is announced by email to registered users and also in the Instant Text forum.
