Marie,

The API (Application Programming Interface) for Instant Text is a tool for system developers who want to develop applications that include Instant Text as a component. For example, a medical record system may have several screens and for some of them IT will be used. The API is used to program whether IT is present or not in those screens.

Also, it may be used to automatically select which glossary is used depending on which text box you are. For example, it is possible to program that a certain glossary will be used when typing into the address text box and a different one in the medication text box, and so on.

So the API is a tool for application programmers and it allows them to control Instant Text by programs written in programming languages such as Visual Basic, C++, or Delphi.

Presently, the API for Instant Text is used by companies such as Dolbey who develop systems for medical records. It is also used by large agencies developing their own transcription system to optimize their own production.
