Instant Text Revision 303 Now Available
Dear Instant Text Users I am pleased to announce the availability of Revision 303 of Instant Text III. This revision comes in two forms:
DOING THE REVISION You will find both revisions on the Textware Solutions web site at the url: http://www.twsolutions.com/demo/revisions.htm Select the proper file and download it. After downloading it, just run Rev303S.exe or Rev303P.exe (whichever is applicable) and it will automatically find the files to be revised and update them. (If you mistakenly try to apply the wrong one, it will protest and nothing will be broken.) To be sure that the revision has been applied, you can check the build date in Help/About Instant Text and it should now be 1999-04-10. WHAT THE REVISION DOES The most important change in Revision 303 is a new ordering of words in the Word Advisory. This is covered in detail in the last part of this message. Other than that, a new client application is now recognized by both versions of Instant Text: the forthcoming MedPad from MedPen. Finally, the treatment of Ctrl+Space has been changed so as not to interfere with Ctrl+Shift+Space, which is used for a nonbreaking space in MS Word. With this correction, we are back to the happy state of Zero Known Problems. (When is the last time you heard this from a software company?) IMPROVED WORD ORDERING This new release of Instant Text provides an improved treatment of words: Multiple choices are now ordered in such a way that the words that have the letters earliest appear first. This change will be of special interest when you start an abbreviation by the first letters of the word as in the example below:
In the New version - on the left - the words that start with pam appear before other entries such as pacemaker. The Previous version - on the right - lists the same entries, but with no special ordering preference. This change should be of special interest to former Smartype users who are quite used to start left-to-right with the initial letters of the word. At the same time, this retains the key advantage of Instant Text, which is the ability to jump ahead to the letters that make a difference: Here you can jump ahead to f and then to s and get pampiniformis by typing pamfs. Another example:
Here the two versions show different entries because there are more matches than advisory lines. All shown entries for the New version start with pec while this is not the case in the Previous version which starts with pancolectomy. Altogether, this revision will allow the left-to-right word-completion style of abbreviation while retaining the powerful subset approach of Instant Text. REVISIONS - FORUM - PLANS - SUPPORT This is the third revision we are issuing using the advanced patching technology developed by Wise Solutions. We are quite pleased that this gives us an ability to easily issue revisions as the need arises.
As usual, this forum is the place for exchanging tips, techniques, suggestions and for us to announce revisions and versions. User-to-user exchanges are definitely encouraged and they give us a good way to understand your needs and formulate what is needed for the future version 4 of Instant Text - currently scheduled for the first spring of the coming century. So we hope you continue participating as we are listening to what you have to say. Of course the forum is no replacement for an active support line! As usual, if you need any help, do not hesitate to email support@twsolutions.com or to call our support phone line. These two methods remain the best way when you need fast service.
