At the end of the first week of the Dom Perignon IV Speed Contest, the current leader is Jenneth Orantia at 77.19 wpm using Fitaly for the PPC VGA.
Perhaps even more surprising is the vast majority of the 18 top participants are using PPC methods. Hopefully, we will see more Palm users accept the challenge and submit entries. The averages so far:
Average Time: 55.03 seconds for the 40-word test
Average Speed: 48.87 wpm
Another striking point is several of those doing very well are using the QWERTY keyboard. We have also noticed that no entry so far is using handwriting. (Is this an indication that handwriting data entry is becoming less popular?)
This week's participants have once more shown that text entry on a PDA is a realistic proposition. The 20 weekly winners receive their choice of several Astraware game titles, WordSmith from Blue Nomad, PocketInformant from WIS, Quik Budget from QuikSense, Amy Reiley's Pocket Vineyard from Neohand, TextMaker from SoftMaker, A stylus from StylusCentral, ScrCapture from Valsoft and various Fitaly products.
Similar prizes are awarded each week throughout the competition, ending November 6, when we will award the Grand Prize, a bottle of Dom Perignon to the fastest time in each of the two categories: Palm and Pocket PC.
